Swedish programmer Markus “Notch” Persson created the first edition of Minecraft during a weekend in early May 2009. Since then the game’s popularity exploded to a point where almost everyone has at least heard of the game.

This popular sandbox game allows players to have adventures, fight monsters, and build their home base. The building aspect of Minecraft is one of the main reasons this game is so wildly popular. There are no Minecraft base ideas that are too wild or impractical to make.

The only thing stopping you from creating a unique base is your imagination. Sometimes it can be difficult to decide on an idea when the world’s your oyster, but luckily we’ve got you covered.

So keep reading for some inspiration and unique Minecraft base ideas to help you get your creative juices flowing.

Easy Survival Base

If you’re just getting into Minecraft you might want to opt for an easier base build until you get the hang of the game. You need something easy to build but contains everything you might need, you can always expand later on.

This basic base requires the following materials:

  • Cobblestones
  • Striped oak logs
  • Oak logs
  • Spruce planks

The materials are easy to obtain and can be crafted through wood. Wood is one of the easiest resources to farm as you need to cut down trees to obtain wood blocks.

For this design, you want to use a 25×25 format. This will give you the right size base to start with as you don’t want to spend hours cutting down trees to get more resources for a larger base.

Put up walls and floors to start with. You can then section off areas to create specific rooms. Don’t worry about the fact that your base initially looks like a giant square, you can always go back and add features.

This base is meant to be a stepping stone, so if you don’t care about the initial aesthetics you can just focus on creating a functional space. Once you have a good base up and running you can start farming resources to build your dream base.

This way you can stay safe from enemies, store your items, and learn the basics of the game before you start rebuilding Middle Earth.

Lake House

A lake house is a great idea if you’re looking for a unique Minecraft base that is aesthetically pleasing and functional. This type of base is extremely secure due to its location.

The downside of this base build is that there isn’t a clear guide to how many resources you’ll need. You need to raise the bottom of your base out of the water, so it will depend on how deep the lake you’re building in is.

Most mobs in Minecraft can’t spawn under the water, meaning you won’t have to fight off as many enemies at your gates. You also won’t have to fortify your walls, fences, or traps as thoroughly. Since fewer mobs will come for you, you also don’t have to worry about your crops getting destroyed or trampled.

You can add a dock or steps that connect your base to the land, or you can place your base in the middle of the lake. From there you can start building whatever your heart desires.

Cottagecore Base

Once you’ve gotten the basics down in Minecraft you can create any style of base, you just need to remember to add all the functional items first! Cottagecore is an aesthetic that has taken the world by storm, with clothes, books, and art being made to match it. So why not create the ultimate cottagecore base?

While you’re building you need to remember you’re striving for a whimsical elven-style base that collides with a cottage in the wood style. Plants and wood are important aspects of this style.

Sky Base

While the sky may be the limit in some games, this doesn’t apply here. Building this type of base requires immense amounts of patience and you have to be extremely precise. While it might sound tedious, if you complete this project you’ll be left with a base that offers the most protection and looks magical.

You can’t build in the sky in Minecraft, so you’ll first need to build a tower and ladder from the ground to the preferred height of your base. You then start building your base, using the tower as the starting point. Once you’ve created a platform that will serve as the ground of your base you can start creating your masterpiece.

This type of build requires precision as you can’t walk around it to make sure everything is even. But if you keep track of everything and carefully place all your blocks you’ll end up with a magical base that offers you the best views.

As a bonus, you’ll also be safe from any and all mobs.

Survival Castle Base

A castle is a great defense against mobs and often gives you the high ground. This type of base offers a lot of storage space and can host a nether portal. On the other hand, this type of base requires a lot of resources so it isn’t always the best if you’re starting out. You can always build a temporary base while you gather all the necessary resources for your castle.

If you’re planning to play on a survivor server you can’t go wrong with a castle. If you plan everything out in advance you can easily create a castle that keeps enemies out, while also having space for enchanting and farming.

Castles are also useful if you’re playing with friends as they can host a few players.

You’ll need to gather a lot of the following resources:

  • Stone
  • Stone bricks
  • Spruce
  • Andesite

You can even incorporate a cute dog house into your base. This way you’re protected and your furry friend can also lounge in style.

This base idea doesn’t require much design as you’ll rely on the natural texture of the materials.

Cave Base

As the name suggests, this type of base is built within a cave. It’s recommended that you create this type of base in the Badlands biome, but any cave will do. The Badlands biome is mainly useful if you want to use terracotta to create your base.

One of the reasons to create a base in a cave is that it offers a lot of protection, not only form mobs but also from other players. There’s nothing worse than spending hours building an amazing base only to have another player destroy it. These bases are hard to find, meaning fewer players will ever have access to your base.

To create this base you first need to excavate rocks to make some space. You want to create enough space so that you can build your base while still having space to move around it.

From there you build a base to your liking. Aesthetically towers and platforms look really good in a cave base as it gives the appearance of forgotten ruins.

Tree House

Have you ever dreamt of living in a tree house? Well, when you play Minecraft you can make those dreams a reality. Simply put, a tree house is a sky base that uses a tree as the initial tower.

You need to work with the tree branches so that your house looks natural. Having branches move through the walls of your base on through your roof will give your base a whimsical feel as if the base and tree grew together.

A tree house lets you get back into the mindset of when you were young. Your tree house becomes your castle, so take the time to create a beautiful, multi-level base. Just make sure your friends or other players don’t accidentally burn your base down!

Minecraft Base Ideas

When it comes to Minecraft base ideas, the sky isn’t even the limit since you can build something that reaches the tallest clouds. If you put in the time and effort you can build a base that all your friends will be jealous of. Don’t waste any more time and start building your own creative Minecraft base!
