Elden Ring Progression Route

The many lands in Elden Ring can feel overwhelming if you don’t have a strategic path to take. Although there are many ways to progress through this game, the best route to travel on is the most straightforward one.

You’ll need to use all the best gaming tips to make it to the end of the game. Before you try to tackle each location, you’ll want to make sure you have a high-enough level and certain items in your inventory. This will help you with your success at moving through this progression.

You’ll want to start with the following items:

  • Somber Smithing Stones
  • Smithing Stones
  • Golden Seed
  • Sacred Tears
  • Grave Gloveworts
  • Ghost Gloveworts
  • Map Fragments

Once you’ve obtained these items, you can start on your quest.

You’ll start your journey in Limgrave on the west side. There are many places to explore here, but you’ll need to focus on a few specific areas.

Head over to the Church of Elleh and buy all your essential gear from Merchant Kale. Key items to buy are a telescope, torch, and crafting kit.

Once you’ve grabbed your supplies, move to the Gatefront Ruins. You’ll meet Melina here, who will give you important tools. You’ll get the Spectral Steed Whistle from her when you visit.

Head back to the Church of Elleh to get your Spirit Calling Bell. You’ll fight Margit the Fell Omen and Godrick the Grafted in this area.

Once you have defeated him, you’ll go to the basement. Here you’ll take the Shabriri Grape and talk with the spirit there. This will bring you instantly to the next place, Liurnia of the Lakes.

Liurnia of the Lakes and the Academy of Raya Lucaria

This region has many swamps and large hills in it. Your goal here is to get the Glintstone Key. You’ll need this to get into the Academy of Raya Lucaria.

When you arrive, find the first Site of Grace. Here you’ll talk to Thops, who will teach you about sorcery.

Once you’ve explored the area, make your way to Rose Church and talk to Varre. You’ll then go to the Scenic Isle Site of Grace and enter the Lakeside Crystal Cave.

After talking to Latenna, you’ll end up in the Academy Gate Town. Find the map fragment here to find the key to get through the gate. You’ll have to run past the dragon to get the key.

Once you’ve retrieved the key, you’ll enter the academy gates. You’ll make your way through the area until you find a Carian Knight, who you must either kill or run past.

After getting by the knight, you’ll find the elevator that will lead you to Queen Rennala, whom you will fight.

Altus Plateau

Once you fight the queen, you’ll need to get yourself to the Altus Plateau. The easiest way to get here is by finding both halves of the Grand Lift Dectus Medallion. Once you find a put the halves together, you’ll transport instantly to the plateau.

At this stage of the game, know that the bosses you fight continuing forward are more dangerous than the ones you’ve encountered so far. Be sure to have upgraded weapons and at least a level 90 before proceeding.

This location connects to your next stop, Leyndell Royal Capital. Find the Altus Highway Junction Site of Grace and follow the northernmost road.

Before you can enter the capital, you’ll have to fight the Draconic Tree Sentinel.

The Royal Capital, Leyndell

Enter the city and head to the Erd tree. Before you get there, you’ll run into the Golden Shade of Godfrey, whom you’ll have to fight.

The bosses keep coming here and the next one you’ll have to fight is Morgott, the Omen King. After you defeat him, you’ll be able to enter the Erd tree. Once you’re here, talk to Melina, who will gift you the Grand Lift Rold’s Medallion.

You’ll have to go through forbidden lands before making it to your next stop. You’ll fight the Black Blade Kindred and Night’s Cavalry and then board an elevator. This will take you to the Mountaintops of the Giants.

The Mountaintops of the Giants

In this location, your goal is to find and defeat the Fire Giant. After getting off the elevator, travel north until you cross a chain bridge. Cross the bridge and go west until you see the corpses of giants and a large crack in the mountain.

Here you’ll meet the very large Fire Giant. Once you kill this giant, a huge cauldron will appear. Climb to the edge and follow it until you get to the Forge of Giants

Rest here and talk to Melina, who wants you to burn the Erd tree down. You do and automatically end up at your next location.

The Crumbling Farum Azula

At the Crumbling Farum Azula, follow the ruins until you find the first Farum Azula Dragon. Run past him and through the arches on the left side of the bridge. You’ll end up at the dragon temple, where you’ll have to compete in the Godskin Duo boss fight.

Once you’ve conquered these bosses, keep going through the ruins until you find the Great Bridge Site of Grace. This is where you’ll have to defeat Maliketh, the Black Blade. As soon as he dies, you’ll teleport to Leyndell, the Capital of Ash.

Leyndell, Ashen Capital

Here you will first see a large dead dragon. Pass the corpse and follow the ash mounds down the hill until you get to Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing. You’ll need to fight him to proceed.

Once he’s out of the way, go east until you find the balcony, and then turn north until you find the queen’s bed chambers. Godfrey, First Elden Lord will meet you behind these doors. Make sure you are prepared to fight this powerful boss.

Once you defeat him, the Elden Throne Site of Grace unlocks. You’ll climb a set of stairs and walk toward a golden light that will teleport you to the game’s finale.

The Ending

This final fight has you fighting two bosses without stopping. You’ll start with Radagon of the Golden Order. He is powerful and his only actual point of weakness is fire.

As soon as you defeat him, the Elden Beast will form. This boss is massive and immediate. You won’t have time to refill your items before fighting it. Don’t try to fight this boss until you reach a level of 120 and with a cache of at least 22 weapons.

Once you kill the beast, you’ll be handsomely rewarded. You’ll get the Elden Remembrance, which you can use to make the Elden Ring Sacred Relic Sword.

The true ending of the tale depends on the choices you made in the game. There are six different endings you can experience based on how you played.
