Luckily, it’s not just the gaming communities that have realized the importance of preserving classic games, a few companies have stepped up to aid the preservation process.
Antstream Arcade is a British company that was founded in 2013 and currently holds the title of being the largest retro gaming platform in the world. As of 2023, the gaming platform contains over 3000 retro games in preservation, with 1300 titles ready for players to enjoy. Microsoft will be teaming up Antstream Arcade to bring these retro games to the Xbox console.
Right now, anyone can play the retro games available on Antstream Arcade by creating an account on their website. But, this option was not available for console owners till now. The cloud based retro gaming platform will be launching on the Xbox X/S and Xbox One consoles. The date of the launch is set to be the 21st of July, with both Antstream Arcade and Xbox providing official announcements on it.
This is not the first time Antstream partnered up with a gaming platform to expand the reach of their retro collection. In 2021, Antstream partnered up with Epic Games by giving users an Antstream welcome pack. The welcome pack was filled with gems which is the default currency on Antstream, allowing users to unlock titles to play.
The vision of Antstream Arcade is to provide retro lovers with the means to legally play their beloved games. Gamers who use the retro games platform are able to save their progress to the platform’s cloud servers and earn achievements. What will be the cost of the retro games on Xbox?
Antstream will be available for Xbox users on the 21st of July as either an annual subscription or a one-time purchase. The annual subscription will be priced at $29.99 and the life-time access purchase at a generous $79.99. Since Antstream is dedicated towards expanding their game library, paying this sum is definitely worth it for retro game enthusiasts.
